Exposures and Determinants of Vitamin D Levels During Pregnancy
Exploring How Environment, Lifestyle, and Social Factors Influence Pregnancy
About the Project
This project investigated how environmental exposures, lifestyle habits, and social determinants shape vitamin D levels during pregnancy in more than 2,000 women across Spain. Using an exposome approach and artificial intelligence methods, the study examined how factors such as air pollution, urban environment, socioeconomic conditions, diet, and lifestyle interact to influence maternal health.
The results showed that vitamin D insufficiency was highly prevalent and strongly associated with environmental and social conditions, including exposure to air pollution, lower ultraviolet radiation, higher body mass index, and living in more deprived areas. The study highlights the important role that environmental and social determinants play in health during pregnancy and supports the development of more targeted public health prevention strategies.
