RAPID-AIM: Rapid Artificial Intelligence-based Diagnosis for Acute Myocardial Infarction

About the Project

RAPID-AIM is a translational AI project focused on improving the early diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) through automated electrocardiogram (ECG) analysis. The project aims to develop clinically deployable artificial intelligence models capable of detecting STEMI and NSTEMI from standard 12-lead ECGs, enabling faster and more accurate decision support in emergency care.

This project combines signal processing, computer vision, and deep learning to build an end-to-end pipeline that can analyze ECGs from diverse acquisition formats, including smartphone photographs of printed or digital ECG reports. The system automatically extracts, digitizes, and interprets ECG signals, providing rapid diagnostic predictions while minimizing the need for specialized hardware.

Developed in close collaboration with clinicians at Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, RAPID-AIM emphasizes robustness, clinical validation, and real-world integration into healthcare workflows. The project aims to improve access to AI-assisted cardiac diagnosis, reduce time to treatment, and ultimately contribute to better patient outcomes in acute cardiovascular care.
