ZeCardioAI

Combining zebrafish and AI for biomarker and drug discovery in cardiomyopathies

ZeCardioAI project image

About the Project

ZeCardioAI is a computational framework that integrates high-throughput zebrafish imaging with artificial intelligence to enable deep cardiac phenotyping and drug repurposing in cardiomyopathies.

The project combines two complementary components: (i) ZeCardio2.0 is a fully automated in vivo cardiac phenotyping platform that extracts functional cardiac metrics from zebrafish heart videos, applied here to zebrafish models of dilated and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy to capture clinically relevant phenotypes and identify key characterizing features through explainable AI. (ii) ZeCardioKG integrates public biomedical data with in-house experimental results into a knowledge graph, performing target prioritization and drug repurposing through network-based analysis. Candidate targets and compounds identified this way are then experimentally validated in zebrafish models using ZeCardio2.0.

Altogether, ZeCardioAI establishes a scalable framework for linking zebrafish screening data with systems biology-level inference, accelerating scientific discovery in cardiomyopathies and beyond.
